ARC Review: Still Yours (20 Something #2)

Still Yours (20 Something #2) by Amy Patrick

Publisher: All Night Reads & Oxford South Press
178 pages, kindle edition
Source: Netgalley

Synopsis (from Goodreads):

Book 2 of the 20 Something series, a New Adult Contemporary series about twenty-something entering the world of TV broadcasting, where what happens behind the scenes is the real news.

23-year-old Mara Neely knows who she is and what she wants - she's an ambitious reporter with a taste for himbos - beautiful dumb guys who don't even tempt her to get involved past wham-bam-thank you-sir.

When she takes a TV news reporting job in Providence, it's great step up career wise, but it's also a little too close to home...and to HIM, the only guy who's ever tempted her to let go and love someone.

To billionaire web entrepreneur Reid Mancini, Mara was like a rare comet-beautiful, exciting, and impossible to hold onto. Now his first love is on his television screen and back in his life, and this time, he's got a surefire plan to catch a star and make her fall.

STILL YOURS is a standalone or can be read as a series sweet and sexy New Adult novel of 59,000 words. It is intended for readers 17+.

My Review:
Please be advised that this review might contain some slight spoilers. Source I received a digital copy of this book for free on a read-to-review basis. Thanks to All Night Reads and Netgalley. This title is set for release on September 10, 2014.

Still Yours is the second book in Amy Patrick's 20 Something series. This story follows Mara Neely, 23 year old reporter that recently came back home to Providence, Rhode Island, and is assigned to interview Reid Mancini the state own resident billionaire, self-starting internet entrepreneur and well Mara's high school sweetheart that she hasn't seen in over 4 - 5 years. Mara and Reid get to know each other once again, the old sparks fly and their attraction gets deeper and deeper. But however, Mara starts to fear that her love for Reid will Ultimately destroy her. Like the love between her parents destroyed her mother. So it is up to Reid to try and convince Mara to let her guard down and follow her heart to what is ultimately meant to be.

I did not think I could like this book as much as I did. It reminded me up a raunchier version of Fangirl. It was Just so cute, and entertaining. I love Mara and Reid. They were just perfect as they were. I enjoyed the fact that Mara had smarts, and integrity. She knew who she was and when the going got too tough for her, she ran with it. Reid took slightly longer to like, but once I did man I was just hooked. He was just a sweet guy that happened to be a billionaire. He didn't change his personality when he gained his fortune. I also enjoyed the fact that it was set in Rhode Island. I never read something from there before, so it was interesting to have a different city than the ones  I am use to reading about. It also was not as dirty as I thought it would be. I thought there would be a lot more sex scenes, but it was pretty mild. It kind of added something to the story, like people in their early to mid-twenties are more three dimensional than the usual care only about sex routine.

All in all, I thought this was a great guilty pleasure read. It was fun and entertaining. It is not a classic and it will never be that but it was a good novel nonetheless. The characters were lovable, the setting was fabulous and the story was really good. I enjoyed it immensely and I would recommend this book to anyone who would want to read a New Adult book for the first time. I'm interested to find out what happens to Kenley in the third book coming out later.

Title: Guitar Notes

But when Lyla begins leaving notes for him in between the strings of the guitar, his life intersects with hers in a way he never expected.

What starts as a series of snippy notes quickly blossoms into the sharing of interests and secrets and dreams, and the forging of a very unlikely friendship.

Review: The Iron King (The Iron Fey #1)

The Iron King (The Iron Fey #1) by Julie Kagawa

Publisher: HarperTeen, 2009
363 pages, Paperback
Source: Borrowed from the local Library

Synopsis (from Goodreads):
Meghan Chase has a secret destiny; one she could never have imagined.

Something has always felt slightly off in Meghan's life, ever since her father disappeared before her eyes when she was six. She has never quite fit in at school or at home.

When a dark stranger begins watching her from afar, and her prankster best friend becomes strangely protective of her, Meghan sense that everything she's known is about to change.

But she could never have guessed the truth - that she us the daughter of a mythical faery king and is a pawn in a deadly war. Now Meghan will learn just how far she'll go to save someone she cares about, to stop a mysterious evil, no faery creature dare face; and to find love with a young prince who might rather see her dead than let her touch his icy heart.

My Review:

This book was outstanding. I mean really...I was totally enthralled from the start all they way through to page 368 the finish. I am just blown away at the sheer awesomeness that emits from this book.

First off I'm a huge fae fan, especially love reading this type of story. But at the same time, when it come to a book about fae there are a lot similarities. Many books share the same mythology, the summer court and winter court, references to Midsummer Night Dream....the Iron King has these elements, and yet...Kagawa totally makes it her own thing. She created this strangely unique world with even stranger inhabitants....just magical! There was no way to anticipate what Meghan would encounter next.

Absolutely loved Meghan's character. Strong, independent, stubborn, selfless. This is the kind of character that you want to read about, the kind of character that you admire. Not to mention the absolutely compelling cast of supporting characters....Puck, Ash and Grimalkin. There aren't many times, especially in a debut, that I find myself genuinely enjoying and being impressed with all the characters. There are usually one or two that really stand out, and the others fade in the background, that's not the case with the Iron King.

This book has it all...action, romance, humor, intrigue not to mention its's exceptionally written.

This is part of a trilogy, but the first book wraps up nicely and set up perfectly for the next novel, the Iron Daughter. Absolutely recommend this book! heads up its ADDICTING!!!!

Review: Without You (Love Wanted in Texas #1)

Can Will's promise to Alex be enough for her to hold on to or will she find herself moving down a different path that she never imagined for herself?

Without you is book in the Love Wanted in Texas series.

My Review:
Man this book was absolutely fabtastic (Fabulous and Fantastic) book from one of my favorite authors Kelly Elliott.

I loved this book, first in its series a spin off series. As usual, Alex and Will's story was full of swoon worthy romance. Right from the first flip of the page I was hooked line and sinker on their story. I couldn't put my phone or kindle down. I just spent a lot of time hoping nothing would change between them when they went their separate ways to college. While they were apart at college, although their love remained strong, Alex did get close to another guy named Blake. Man the dude just gave bad vibes from the get go so what happened between them didn't really surprise me, I was just glad things didn't get to far with them. All of the guys were fiercely protective of the girls which I loved and I'm sure everyone else did, because all the fathers would have had hell on their hands if they didn't. It was obvious that there were more than friendship feelings involved with Colt and Lauren, Luke and libby. All these kids remind me so much of Ellie and Gunner, Ari and Jeff, Brad and Amanda, Josh and Heather, And Jessie and Scott.

I thought Luke and Libby were Ari and Jeff, why because Jeff ran away from his feelings for Ari now Luke is running away from his feelings for Libby. I thought Colt and Lauren were Josh and Heather, why because Josh told Heather about his feelings for her and she said she doesn't share the same feelings now Colt told Lauren about his feelings for her and Lauren said she doesn't share the same feelings. Talk about apples don't fall from the trees.

I also loved how all the previous characters were included into this story (I hope they make appearances throughout the series) even though it focused more on their children. The epilogue has left me counting down the days, weeks, months until Luke ad Libby's story Saving you comes out!! I tots rooted for them and can't wait until they get their happily ever after.

Anyone who enjoyed the Wanted series will enjoy this book without a doubt.

Review: Alec (Slater Brothers #2)

Alec (Slater Brothers #2) by L.A. Casey

Publisher: L.A. Casey, 2014
549 pages, Kindle edition
Source: Purchased through Amazon

Synopsis (from Goodreads):
Keela Daley is the black sheep of her family. She has always come second to her younger cousin Micah. Even in the eyes of her mother, Micah shone bright, and Keela faded to black. Now, in adulthood, Micah is a bride-to-be and the spotlight is solely on her. Keela is a low Priority...or so she thinks.

Alec Slater is a bachelor, never one to bed the same women, or man, twice. He is a free agent who does what he pleases and answers to no one; that is until a fiery Irish redhead with a temper to match her hair colour knocks him on his arse. Literally.

She hates to admit it, but Keela needs a favour from the cocky Slater brother, a huge favour. She needs him not to only escort her to Micah's wedding, but to also pose as her boyfriend. Alec agrees to help Keela, but has certain conditions for her to abide by. He wants her body and plans to have it before anyone can say I do.

What he doesn't plan on is losing his heart as well as the possibility of losing his family when someone from his past threatens his future.

Alec owns Keela, and what Alec owns, Alec Keeps.

My Review:
Wow after learning a bit about Alec in 'Dominic' - I was beyond excited to see what L.A. Casey would bring to the table. OMGosh let me tell you...this went beyond all my expectations. Alec is prefection! I can't really say who I love more Dominic or Alec, I love them both including the other Slate brothers, Dominic and Alec have two different type of personalities you will fall in love with either of them. But what I do know is that between Alec and Keela I havent laughed so much from reading a book.

I wish Keels was one of my best friends!!!! And man speaking of best friends, Ado (Keela's best friend) is absolutely freaken hilarious! Her 'relationship with storm is one for the books!

Another thing I love about this book is you get to learn more about the Slater brothers and I can never get enough of them. It is genius how L.A. Casey can mall the brothers so different but yet the same. I love that there is nothing these brothers wouldn't do for each other.

There isn't much I say without spoiling this fabulous book, but trust me when I say you won't be disappointed. This book is hilarious with a capital H and HOT, but will stop you in your damn tracks to make you cry and get angry and hot headed.

Thank you so much once again L.A. Casey for sharing your masterpiece with the entire world.

ARC Review: Three Nights With A Rock Star

Review: Three Nights With A Rock Star by Amber Lin & Shari Slade

Publisher: Aspendawn Books, 2014
161 pages, ebook edition
Source: Netgalley

Synopsis (from Goodreads):
When Hailey crashes a Half-Life after party, she expects to find the bastard who knocked up her little sister. Instead she meets the sexy front-man who agrees to giver her access to his crew if she gives him access to her body.

All Lock demands in return is three days of complete control over the Sunday School teacher. With a contract, because he's been burned before. One misstep could send the band - and his tenuous sobriety - up in flames.

Hailey and Lock push each other's limits... Against the penthouse window. Backstage. In the limo and on the elevator. But as the contract counts down, neither are ready for the party to end.

My Review:
Yus a new rock star romance book to fall totally in-love with! Sign me the hell up ASAP!!! Like the title says Three Nights With A Rock Star is just exactly that. Who could or would turn that opportunity down? Most definitely not me. This book had a great sexy rock god, Sweetest nursery teacher, and great emotion. The story is interesting and walked on opposite of saint and sinner that I absolutely enjoyed.

Hailey is very determined to find out which Half - Life member knocked her sister up. She goes kind of covert and meets Lock the complicated leader of the band. He offers her three nights to do to her as he so pleases and she is more than welcomed to find who she is looking for. She gives up all her inhibitions once in her life for her sister and the man that has made her sign a contract owning her.

This book was a fast read and it pretty much dives into all the good things. What I mean is Lock puts the contract into effect the moment Hailey signs on the dotted line. THat sure sealed the deal for me and it was hard not to like Lock as a dominant ( thought I would never say that word again). Hailey was in need of someone to hold the reigns for once instead of herself and I think she got the sweet end of that deal.

Now I absolutely adored this whole book and thought it was bloody marvelous. I would highly recommend this book to any rock star/romance love. I am definitely keeping an eye out for this series.

Review: Sweet Evil (The Sweet Trilogy #1)

Sweet Evil (The Sweet Trilogy #1) by Wendy Higgins

Publisher: HarperTeen, 2014

385 pages, Paperback
Source: Purchased through BookDepository

Synopsis (from Goodreads):
Embrace the Forbidden.

What if there were teens whose lives literally depended on being bad influences?

This is the reality for sons and daughters of fallen angels. Tenderhearted Southern girl Anna Whitt was born with the sixth sense to see and feel emotions of other people. She's aware of a struggle within herself, an inexplicable pull toward danger, but it isn't until she turns sixteen and meets the alluring Kaidan Rowe that she discovers her terrifying heritage and her willpower is put on the test. He's the boy your daddy warned you about. If only someone had warned Anna.

Forced to face her destiny, will Anna embrace her halo or her horns?

My Review:

This book was addicting. I couldn't put the bloody thing down, I was hooked from page one. This book will have your heart racing and sitting on the edge of your seat.

I was so irrevocably in love with all the characters. The characters to me are what made this book so damn great. I loved each and every single one of them. You have your main character Anna, who knows that she has special abilities, but doesn't exactly understand them or know why she even has them. As she tries to understand what is happening to her and who she really is, she meets Kaiden Rowe. He seems to have all the answers. Their relationship was so much fun to read. At first Anna finds him so attractive, and then the next she couldn't stand him. Kaiden was very blunt with Anna. He didn't pretend to be someone he was so not and didn't sugar coat bloody anything. How could you not fall for him? I really thought after their first meeting that the story would jump into an insta-boom-love and I would really be annoyed by Kaiden and Anna's relationship, but it was far from it.

Later in the story you meet four other character who are just like Kaiden and Anna. I thought it would be a little hard to keep up with all the new characters, but it really wasn't. Higgins did such an awesome job bringing each individual character to life. She also has a way with words when it comes to descriptions. I was easily able to picture certain parts of the book and get a feel for every emotion Anna experienced. I cannot forget about Anna's father. As a romance addict, I would love to read a story about him and his love for Anna's mother.

I really loved the book. I jumped into it expecting it to go in so many different directions and was taken by surprise at every turn and twist. The story Higgins delivered is so refreshing and unique, it was exactly what I wanted!!!!!

ARC Review: Leaving Time

Review: Leaving Time by Jodi Picoult

Publisher: Allen & Unwin Book Publishers, 2014
400 pages, first edition
Source: The ReadingRoom

Synopsis (from Goodreads):

Alice Metcalf was a devoted mother, loving wife and accomplished scientist who studied grief among elephants. Yet it's been a decade sicnce she disappeared under mysterious circumstances, leaving behind her small daughter, husband, and the animals to which she devoted her life. All signs point to abandonment - or worse.

Still Jenna - now thirteen years old and truly orphaned by a father maddened by grief - steadfastly reuses to believe in her mother's desertion. So she decides to approach the two people who might still be able to help her find Alice: a disgraced psychic named Serenity Jones, and Virgil Stanhope, the cynical detective who frist investigated her mother's disappearance and the strange, possibly linked death of one of her WC mother's coworkers.

Together these three lonely souls will discover truths destined to forever change their lives. Deeply moving and suspenseful, Jodi Picoult's 21st novel is a radiant exploration of the enduring love between mothers and daughters.

My Review:
Man I needed a few hours to think about what I was going to rate this fabtastic (fabulous and fantastic) book. So after some thought, I've decided it had to be A (Amazing. Eligible for the honor roll). You might be asking yourself why? For me the deciding factor was the fact that I did not see that twist coming whatsoever. I was an absolute sucker for this books thrillers, mysteries, but pretty much any book that come across like that. This book has a twist at the end. But majority of the time, I have the ending sussed. I'm pretty much the same way with movies and TV shows. For whatever reason, and maybe I've got psychic abilities like Serenity Jones (hahaha just jokes), I just know what is going to happen, and more often then not, it almost takes the excitement out of it for me.

But this time round...I was STUNNED. I was trying to figure it out. What the heck happened to Alice? But every scenario I played out in my own hear didn't seem plausible, and not to mention, didn't seem like an ending Jodi would write. She got me this time though. I am in such a book hangover that I can't even look at another book, but I have more books that need to be reviewed. I feel like Im cheating on all the character in this book even the elephants and everyone in between. How I will miss Serenity and Virgil's arguments and learning about elephants and seeing them through Alice's eyes. I'l miss Jenna's not-so-innocence and quirkiness.

I think I may have to revisit this novel in October. I cannot wait for the world to read it and fingers crossed you are amazed as I am right now!!!!

What can I say…..I LOVE this series!!!! This is the 4th book in the Wanted Series and I thought it was just as great as the first three. This one was about Scott and Jessie, but we still got to see the others from all the books and what they are up to now. We even got to meet a couple new characters, that will be getting their own book as well. I am looking forward to that. Kelly Elliott truly knows how to write a steamy and romantic story. I love her Cowboys ;) This book was no different, she gave us cheesy romance (which I happen to LOVE), a swoon worthy cowboy, some drama (that is over pretty quickly) and of course the HEA we all look forward too. The main thing I love about her books is we get a full circle, we get to see when the couple meets, then dates and then we see how things are for them down the road after the HEA. I love that we got to see what was happening 10 yrs down the road and then we got a sneak peek of an upcoming book for Alex and Will.

I will continue to read anything Kelly Elliott writes because she truly knows how to suck a person into her books. She makes you feel as though you are a part of her characters lives. If you loved Wanted, Saved, and Faithful…..then you don't want to miss out on Cherished!!!!

It only takes one moment to change it all.

Faithful is the third book in the Wanted series by Kelly Elliott.

My Review:

Wonderful love story with a lot of heart, we’ve all been waiting on Josh and Heather's story and I was not disappointed. Faithful picks up when Josh has been in a terrible car accident just like Heather's parents which leaves her devastated and wishing she had done things differently the last time she saw Josh. Without giving too much away, Josh wakes up in the hospital and can't remember the last four years of his life, he thinks he is still in college. Heather is heartbroken, to make things worse his old girlfriend, Victoria who you will hate, is a nurse at the hospital and tries to push herself back in Josh's life.
When Josh see's Heather even though he can't remember her, he know there is something special about her and that she means something to him.

Kelly Elliott takes you on an emotional journey with what these two characters face together and it's not an easy one for Josh and Heather. We also get a chance to catch up with Gunner, Ellie and baby Alex along with Jeff, Ari and Luke. I love how they are folded into the story, you feel like you get more than just one book. I have to say my favorite character has to be Matthew, and the funny as hell laugh out loud things that seem to happen when he comes into the story, best word ever assmole!

This book made me laugh out loud, cry and yell hell yea whenever a punch was thrown and there are some of those in this book. Another good book from The Wanted series.

Review: Saved (Wanted #2)

He's completely bewitched by the passionate and always outspoken Ari, but needs to do right for the child that could possibly be his.

Despite all the odds stacked against them can their relationship be....SAVED?

My Review:
Jesus, Mary and Joseph....Kelly Elliott did it again. I thoroughly enjoyed Saved. I will say that I still think Wanted is my favorite and that’s because Ellie and Gunner are my favorite couple, but Saved was almost as good. I enjoyed that we got all the different points of view. I was also glad to see that the Rebecca debacle was cleared up by like 50% and that it wasn't dragged out throughout the whole book. It was great seeing how Gunner and Ellie's story played out and also getting to know Heather and Josh. I will say the only thing that I was slightly disappointed in was the fact that Heather and Josh's story played such a big part in this book. I was hoping for more of Ari and Jeff and even more of Gunner and Ellie. I think the drama that was added in Heather and Josh's story could've been cut out of this book and saved for Faithful which is supposed to be their book. Especially after reading the epilogue....there is obviously going to be enough drama already for their story that the extra drama of Lynda in Saved I don't think was necessary.

If you're wondering why I have this on my cliffhanger shelf, it's because there is one regarding Heather and Josh's story. I don't want to say anything more because it would give too much away. I will say this that Ari and Jeff's story is definitely a happily ever after and their story wraps up nicely in Saved but she left it open at the end to set up for Faithful (Heather and Josh's story). I couldn't wait because I needed to see what happened with Rebecca but the ending of Saved is driving me nuts with thoughts and theories of what will happen.

I would definitely recommend this book for anyone who is a fan of Wanted.

Review: Wanted (Wanted #1)

Wanted (Wanted #1) by Kelly Elliott

Published: Kelly Elliott, 2012
503 pages, Paperback (2 edition)

Synopsis (from Goodreads):
Verbally abused by her mother for years, 18 year old Ellie Johnson always believed she would never be loved or wanted by anyone. She focused all of her attention on her grades and getting into the University of Texas to start a new life away from her mother.

The last thing Ellie expected was to fall in love with Gunner Mathews, a starting linebacker for the University of Texas football team and not to mention, her brothers best friend.

Gunner only had two passions in his life, football and his grandfather's ranch, until he falls for his best friends little sister. He will stop at nothing to show Ellie how much he wants her, even if it means he has to move faster than she would like.

Gunner knows they are meant to be together forever, but Ellie keeps denying her feelings out of fear of being hurt again. Every time he gets close to winning her love, something pushes her away again. Will Ellie ever be able to let go of the past and let him into her heart and will Gunner be patient enough to wait for her?

What will it take for them to realise they are all each other have ever wanted?

My Review:
First thing is first Kelly Elliott I give you 2 thumbs up and 5/5 starts for Wanted. This is Kelly's first book and she did an excellent job with the minor mistakes...I thought that the story line was awesome and her characters were well developed. I just loved how Kelly alternated between all characters point of views throughout the story, so we could see exactly how they feel and see things through their eyes. Ellie grew up with a dunk for a mother and was mentally and emotional abused by her mother on a daily basis. Ellie was told bu her own mother that she would never amount to anything and that nobody would want her...

Jefferson, Ellie's older brother is attending the university of Texas and has a best friend named Gunner (what a nickname, My first thoughts were HOT, SEXY MUSCLE man). Jefferson is very protective of his little sister like all big brother should be, but never knew the extent of the verbal abuse their mother was inflicting on Ellie.

Ellie needs to learn at her own pace how to love herself before she can allow someone to love her. Ellie needs to know that she is wanted and open her heart to love. Gunner is a total sweetheart and falls hard for Ellie the moment he laid eyes on her (It was like BOOM instant love at first sight). Gunner will do everything in his power to show Ellie that she is wanted.
