ARC Review: Where The Road Takes Me

23379428Where The Road Takes Me by Jay McLean

Publisher: Skyscape, 2015
325 pages, kindle edition
Source: Netgalley
Release Date: February 10th 2015
Genre: New Adult, Young Adult, Romance, Contemporary

Synopsis (from Goodreads):
Chloe has one plan for the future, and one plan only: the road. She’s made a promise to herself: don’t let anyone in, and don’t let anyone love her. She’s learned the hard way what happens if she breaks her rules. So she’s focused on being invisible and waiting until she can set out on the road—her dream of freedom, at least for a little while.

Blake Hunter is a basketball star who has it all—everything about him looks perfect to those on the other side of his protective walls. He can’t let anyone see the shattered pieces behind the flawless facade or else all his hopes and dreams will disappear.

One dark night throws Chloe and Blake together, changing everything for Blake. For Chloe, nothing changes: she has the road, and she’s focused on it. But when the so-called perfect boy starts to notice the invisible girl, they discover that sometimes with love, no one knows where the road may lead.

My Review:
This book follows the story of Chloe and Blake, when Chloe thought of the future she only had one goal in her life to finish school and go on the road, her life has been anything but easy. Faced with loss from early age Chole had vowed not to let anyone in to never fall in love she just wants to fade into the background.

On the outside Blake has it all a beautiful girlfriend, basketball career. But his life is anything but perfect, his relationship with his girlfriend is for convenience to the both of them. His father doesn’t respect his dream of playing ball and wants to join the army and his mom, but his mum lives in their guest house. He is desperately trying to hold it all together. But one fateful night Chloe and Blakes path will cross and forever change their course, suddenly Chloe is not as invisible as she wants to be unlikely friendships forms and their walls are very slowly coming down. Falling in love was never the plan, Where The Road Takes Me is a beautiful coming of age story. It is a story of taking what life throws at you and accepting the cards that you’re dealt, but this story is story is of true love and faith.

This story had me from the first flip of the page I was very much intrigued with what was going on with Chloe and what secrets she keeps close to her. Blake was a very amazing match for Chloe, he made her see that life was worth living for and made her take the risk of falling in love. This book is a heartwarming story, that made me laugh, cry a lot of tears and fell in love with every page.

ARC Review: Model Undercover: New York (Model Undercover Series)

24316140Model Undercover: New York (Model Undercover Series) by Carina Axelsson

Publisher: Sourcebooks, 2015
320 pages, kindle edition
Source: Netgalley
Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary
Links: Goodreads | Amazon

Synopsis (from Goodreads):
Unlock the secrets of the fashion world in this fun and breezy mystery.

When the world's most famous black diamond is stolen during a magazine cover shoot, it's up to undercover model Axelle Anderson to crack the case. The only witness is a trendsetting teen fashion blogger who refuses to say anything, and Axelle has a hunch that what appears to be a clear-cut case of jewelry theft is anything but.

Axelle and her sleuthing friends are drawn into a web of blackmail and backstabbing fashionistas. As she struts her way down the New York City runways and juggles her busy modeling schedule and new romance, Axelle must pit herself against a rival who'll stop at nothing to bring her down.

My Review:
This was well-written just like the previous book it was also written in first person, it gives us ‘the readers’ the option to get to know Axelle Anderson. The ease with which the world of fashion – with its renowned designers is weaved into the story make it seems as familiar setting as your average corner store, making it easy to follow the story. Axelle’s week in Paris had a very positive influence on her. She sounds more mature than the whiney teenager she came off as in the beginning of Model Undercover: A Crime of Fashion. While she still has the same concerns now that she had in Paris, concerns shared by many teenagers around the world, such as wanting to pursue a career that her mom doesn’t approve of wondering about her relationship with her boyfriend. Axelle comes off as down to earth responsible 16 year old. Except perhaps for the fact that she shares a lot of information about her secret case with her friends and family mostly over the phone while people in the fashion world are milling around.

In the first series Axelsson touched upon concepts of perception and dichotomies. In this volume she too briefly touched upon the concept of perception as well, this time when her model friends urges Axelle to not judge but keep an open mind when faced with the confusing and unexpected actions of her boyfriend. Whle the concept was discussed only superficially, it will hopefully generate a deeper reflection in Axelsson’s readers.

This is a light-hearted, fast paced and a very good page turner both books in the series would make a good summer read. But while this one is the second book in the Model: Undercover series, enough background info was weaved into the story by the author making it easy for new readers to keep up Axelle’s adventures.

ARC Review: Rebound (Boomerang #2)

22714926Rebound (Boomerang #2) by Noelle August

Publisher: William Morrow Paperbacks, 2015
304 pages, kindle edition
Source: Edelweiss
Genre: New Adult, Romance, Contemporary, Chick-Lit, Young Adult
Links: Goodreads | Amazon

Synopsis (for Goodreads):
Hooking up is only the beginning of the fun in this sexy and irresistible second installment of the thrilling New Adult series, Boomerang.

Adam Blackwood has it all. At twenty-two, he’s fabulously wealthy, Ryan Gosling-hot and at the top of the heap in the business world. His life is perfect, until a scandal from his past resurfaces and knocks the tech wunderkind down, throwing his company, Boomerang, a hook-up site for millennials, into chaos.

Three years ago, Adam married his high school love—and then lost her in a tragic accident. Now, the heartbreak and guilt he’s tried to bury with work and women begins to take over his life.

Alison Quick, the twenty-one-year-old daughter of a business tycoon—and the very ex-girlfriend of Boomerang’s former intern, Ethan—has a problem of her own. She’s got one chance to prove to her father that she deserves a place in his empire by grabbing control of Boomerang and taking Adam down.

But as Alison moves in on him, armed with a cadre of lawyers and accountants, she discovers there’s much more to Adam and Boomerang than meets the eye. Will earning her father’s approval come at the price of losing her first real love? It appears so, unless Adam can forgive her for wrecking his life and trying to steal his livelihood. But Alison hopes that old adage is right. Maybe love can conquer all.

My Review:
Founder and Owner of Boomerang, Adam Blackwood has accomplished a lot with his life and his business at a young age but he is ready to expand his business even more. With the plans to start a production company Adam needs an investor to help him make his vision to become a reality. Alison’s dad is a wealthy ruthless business man who has his eye on investing in boomerang but he needs to make sure that his millions of dollars will be going into good investment, Alison is assigned to look into Boomerang and Adam by working closely with the company. Even when Adam surrounds himself with people he trusts and likes he does not really let anyone in ever since his ex-died, but Alison makes him want to change all of that in a nanosecond even though they both try to fight the attraction towards one another but giving in feels good.

What I liked most about rebound was that if felt good it wasn’t about anger, drama and broken characters it was still sexy without it mostly being about the sex. I fell in love with Adam’s character and was a goner for him from the get-go, as usual the rich characters own their own companies are pretty much shitheads and I liked that Adam was genuine and a nice guy who loved his company and employees whole heartedly it’s just he was very guarded when it came to his heart. It was nice to know he recognized that he had feelings for Alison and he was very determined to have her as his, and even though there is really nothing I didn’t like about Alison I know she cheated on Ethan when they were together and that action was never excused. She made the mistake and in the end she paid for that by losing Ethan and she moved on with her life. And she was able to form a real friendship with Mia – Ethan’s current girlfriend.

Rebound was just one of those books that you just can’t put down, it’s the kind that you can’t help that puts a smile on your face when reading the book. If you are looking for a New Adult series that is low on the drama and anger then the Boomerang series are the perfect one’s for you. Can’t wait for the next one in the series since Adams younger brother was a scene stealer. I could re-read this book again it’s just one of those books that will never get old.

Blog Tour: Unexpected Fate (Hope Town #1) by Harper Sloan (Review + Giveaway)

Series: Hope Town #1
Release Date: February 17th 2015
Genre:  New Adult, Romance, Contemporary, Erotica, Humor
Links: Goodreads | Amazon US | Amazon UK | B&N

Have you ever felt like you were living your life for a future that was predetermined? Like there was some bigger picture you just prayed you would someday see clearly? That picture has been crystal clear to me since I was old enough to recognize it for just what it was.

Or I should say recognize him for who he was.

I’ve loved Cohen Cage since I was a small child. He’s been my everything for the last twenty-two years. I’ve loved him through every girlfriend he’s ever brought home. Through his college years and then mine. I’ve loved him through two deployments. And ever since the day I told him how I felt, he’s acted like I’m a stranger.

My name is Danielle Reid, and it’s time for me to get my man.

Our future is an unexpected fate, and no matter what our parents, siblings, and friends say…it’s going to be worth every second of the fight to make it happen.

**This book is a standalone, HEA, with mature themes and sexual situations**

“Dani-girl.” His voice, that rich rumble of masculine excellence, washes over me and I shiver again before cursing under my breath. The rumble of his low laughter tells me that he definitely didn’t miss that little move.
Kill me now.
“Hey, Coh,” I say with a smile. “What brings you in? Last minute, I might add.” I pat the chair before walking around and holding the back while he sits down.
When his scent hits my nose, I almost come on the spot. Lord, he smells good. I wonder what he would smell like while his body covered mine, all sweaty from hours of good lovemaking. I run my fingers through the longer lengths on the top and feel my cheeks heat slightly, thinking about doing the same when his face is buried between my legs.
“…needed a trim.”
Shit. I missed what he said because, naturally, I was thinking about him naked. Naked and thrusting into my body. Naked and feasting between my spread thighs.
“You feeling okay? I thought Nate said you were better?”
“Uh, I’m fine. Just—is it hot in here?” I fan my face and avoid his eyes.
He’s silent, so I take that as a sign that it’s safe to bring my attention back to him.
Big mistake there. His knowing eyes are boring right into mine. The chocolate depths sparkling in a way that makes it clear he has a good idea about where my mind was going.
“Did you hear what I said, Dani-girl?”
“Of course I did, Cohen. What, did you think I was standing here daydreaming?” I joke.
“Well, yeah, that’s exactly what I think.” His eyes darken and he smirks a devilish grin. “Did you know you talk in your sleep, Dani?” he asks, and I drop my comb.
Oh, God. Shut up, shut up, shut up. This is not happening. No way.
“No, I don’t,” I childishly snap.
“Dani, you do. So, yeah, I do think you were standing there daydreaming. Want to know why?” He uses his booted foot to move his chair so that he’s facing me, and then he leans in so that his face is dangerously close to mine. Even when he’s seated, his head is almost level with my own. Curse my horizontally challenged self. “While you were zoning off into space with your fingers running through my hair, you had this smile on your lips. The same smile you had the other day when you were dreaming. About me, Dani. And don’t deny it, because you don’t moan my name if you’re dreaming about another man. Yes, Dani, you very much do talk in your sleep.” He smiles again before leaning back and looking down to his phone. “Clean up my neck please, cut the length off the top, and give me a buzz on the sides. Other than that, you’re clear to continue with your thoughts.”
I must have been standing there like an idiot because he looks up from his phone, laughs to himself, and, with one tan hand, reaches out and pushes my mouth closed.
“You’re going to catch flies that way, Dani-girl. One day, maybe you can clue me in on what those dreams are about.”
Drives me insane, the control he has over me. There isn’t a single person in the world, other than Cohen, who can turn me into a ridiculously stupid, sputtering fool. My normal confidence disappears. And clearly, he isn’t as oblivious to my feelings as I originally thought.
How in the hell am I supposed to handle this?
Wait a minute. Cohen or not, I’m not going to let him pull my strings when I know he is just doing this to make me feel uncomfortable.
So, time to call his bluff.
“Why? You planning on doing something about it?”
He looks up sharply, clearly not having expected me to actually say something in return since he was going for shock value.
“Try me,” he demands, his voice thick and even deeper than normal.
I throw my head back and reach out to run my fingers thought his hair again, just barely suppressing the shivers. Curling my fingers slightly so that I can grab a good hold, I lean in and pull his head back at the same time. With my nose just a hair away from his and our breaths mingling together, I say, “Cohen, you couldn’t handle the truth of my thoughts when it comes to you and we both know it. So how about you let me know when you’re ready for me to clue you in.” I give his hair a light tug and smile when he swallows loudly and shifts in his seat. “Ready for that trim?” I ask with a wink, and I’m rewarded with his groan.
I have no idea how I do it, but I manage to get through his cut without coming unglued. I can see Lyn trying to get my attention from across the room. Stella had to leave after she overheard my words to Cohen because her giggles were getting the best of her. Cohen has remained silent the whole time. His eyes though… They’re speaking louder than his words ever could.
They haven’t left my reflection in the mirror since I started. I can feel them every time I shift. When I stopped to go grab another comb after I dropped my fourth one, I felt his gaze follow me across the room to Stella’s station. The few times I stopped cutting to meet his eyes, the heated promise written all over his face almost did me in. I almost just said ‘fuck it’ and climbed on his lap to have a go regardless of the people watching our every move.
I finish the last buzz of my clippers around his right ear and move to brush all the stray hair off. “All done,” I say softly and unclip his cape.
He stands, shoving his phone in the back pocket of his jeans, and walks over to stand in front of me. I continue to pretend I’m busy with the cape I just removed, brushing stray hairs off here and there, when his hand comes up, his finger and thumb hitting my chin, and my face is lifted until I have no choice but to look in his eyes.
“Do not tease me, Dani. It’s not a game you want to play if you don’t intend to follow through.”
“I-I wasn’t… I wouldn’t,” I stammer.
“You did, and I have no doubt you’ll have the brilliant idea to do it again. The next time you allude to those dirty thoughts I know you have about me, don’t think for a second that I won’t drag you to the closest bed to show you just how fucking dirty they’ll get.” He leans close, his scent hitting my nostrils, and I involuntarily inhale deeply, earning me a rumbled chuckle. “What you don’t know, Dani—because contrary to what you think, you don’t know me well enough to assume what having me would really be like. But I promise you this: every little thought that you have had that causes you to moan my name while scissoring those perfect legs back and forth, praying for completion—it would be so much hotter than you could ever imagine.” He gives me a soft, sweet kiss against my temple that has fire racing from that spot all over my body until it ends in the awareness that I’m pretty sure I just came in my pants.

Author Bio:
Harper lives in small town Georgia just a short drive from her hometown of Peachtree City. She (and her 3 daughters) enjoy ruling the house they dubbed 'Estrogen Ocean', much to her husband’s chagrin. Harper has a borderline unhealthy obsession with books; you can almost ALWAYS find her with her eReader attached. She enjoys bad reality TV and cheesy romantic flicks. Her favorite kind of hero--the super alpha kind!

Harper started using writing as a way to unwind when the house went to sleep at night; and with a house full of crazy it was the perfect way to just relax. It didn't take long before a head full of very demanding alphas would stop at nothing to have their story told.

My Review:
I read this book in 2 sittings meaning nothing absolutely nothing got done until I flip to the last page. I couldn’t or wouldn’t put this book down, anyone who is going to read this book or read the following books in the Corp Security Series will understand. In Unexpected Fate we get to hear from our beloved favorite characters from Corp Security, but now we can get to hear from our characters kids Cohen Greg and Melissa’s son and Dani Izzy and Axel’s daughter story. Now we all remember Cohen as the adorable little superhero child that you seriously couldn’t help but adore and fall for, but let me say this Cohen has grown into one seriously hot alpha dirty talking male.

Dani has been in love with Cohen for a very long time since they were just young children her heart was always with him and nothing could ever persuade her to change her mind, Cohen being the super adorable superhero kid that we all grew to love and cherish has now grown to be a hero who is the special OPS. But one night changes it all it took to set the stage for these 2 who have been destined from birth to be together finally, but they have obstacles presented to them along the way. Ms. Sloan wrote this novel so fantastically that I practically ignored everything going on.

We remember Axel being one big overprotective possessive daddy alpha we actually see that come out tenfold but also there is another side of him you will fall more in love with, Cohen has learned from to be the best from his dad and the rest of the guys in Corp Security. I think he is going to give the men from Corp Security a big run for their money. I seriously cannot recommend this book enough to set its pace for many more books to come that I super excited for. Harper Sloan you did an absolutely fantastic job.
